Safearth Consulting News

The Safearth Consulting team experienced a number of highlights over the past year that mark significant milestones for several of our customers.

Major Projects

Our team has been fortunate enough to be selected to engineer and perform verification testing of the earthing across some of the country’s largest solar renewables projects. Through comprehensive understanding of the issues not only in technical earthing design but integration with power authorities, we continue lead our partners to achieve quality, cost, and constructability improvement. Safearth performed commissioning of its earthing system design at Rio Tinto’s Cape Lambert Power Station. This facility represents one of the final major projects for Rio Tinto in its Pilbara power system upgrade. Safearth is working closely with construction and design teams on the Sydney Metro2 and Westconnex transport projects in Sydney, with both in full swing.

Partnerships

Safearth is working ongoing with a significant number of power utilities, high voltage asset owners and ASP’s Australia wide including Endeavour Energy, ActewAGL, Power and Water, SnowyHydro, SA Power Networks, CitiPower, Newmont, BHP, Glencore, Yancoal and their suppliers. For one asset owner alone, our team has successfully delivered a compressed program of 12 major zone and transmission substation remedial designs in a period of 6 months. We are continuing to ramp up our involvement in the Rail sector after finding our contributions in training, technical earthing and bonding design, and engineering support have been very valuable to owners. We are pleased to be helping owners including Metro Trains Melbourne, Yarra Trams and Gold Coast Light Rail both in projects and maturing standards.

New Team Members

With a significant pipeline of work, our team has expanded to welcome two new members. Sam Holland and Josh Bowman joined us in the second half of 2017. Sam a qualified electrician and Josh a degree electrical engineer, bring diverse skills that complement and build on our existing engineering resources. Read more from them below.

Safety

Although part of our name, Safety doesn’t just happen. Working in such diverse areas of industry requires a continued and keen focus and appropriate systems and process. Many of the sites we work at are high risk including Oil and Gas, Mining, Construction, Rail, and Electrical. We are extremely proud of our ongoing safety outcomes with zero LTIs in the last 8 years with a full time team of 20 staff involved in the field and over 350,000hrs worked.

The Safearth’s Consulting team is looking forward to continuing its contribution and helping its customers into 2018, including consolidating and developing partnerships. Should you have a project we can assist with, problems you would like solved, or would just like to talk about how we could help, please feel free to give our friendly team a call.

Meet Our New Team Members

We are very excited to have welcomed two new members to the consulting team! Sam Holland and Josh Bowman have become great assets to the consulting department, and come with unique backgrounds!

Introducing Sam Holland

I’m an electrician by trade and have recently joined the consulting team. I was previously on the tools doing instillation, but now I’m in an office space designing and planning. My previous role was based around customer service, and I was renowned for delivering to the best of my ability, always exceeding expectation. I’m committed 100 percent to my clients.

What makes you interested in this type of work?

I was getting pigeon holed with the low voltage side of things as an electrician, where as this side of the industry there’s more exposure, experience, a diverse range of application being in mining and rail. My interests are really in the mining side of things and the larger scale of application of engineering.

What do you like about Safearth as a company?

I love the culture and the team. They’ve been very welcoming from day one, and it gives me ‘a warm fuzzy feeling’ just being part of the team. We have experts in a range of fields. They’ve taken me under their wings, and just being under the same roof as some of the biggest names in such a specialised field is pretty good.

What do you do outside of working hours?

Outside of work I go camping all the time, surfing, and I just bought a house so I’m keen to start renovating. I play OzTag, and a bit of Crossfit, and that’s about it.

Introducing Josh Bowman

I have a degree in electrical engineering and I’m mostly doing consulting work in renewable energy, solar farms and in utilities. I’m doing a bit of everything, which is really cool. I love learning by doing and so I dabble in a few different things around the place. I like to start and finish the job, and work as hard as I can to get there.

What do you enjoy about the aspect of the work?

It’s challenging which is good – it’s not just ‘copy and pasting’, but doing the work and applying it properly. I enjoy that I get learn something new every time I do something. I also enjoy working with the people at Safearth and what we do, because it’s so interesting. I also like the field work aspect and practically getting out there and seeing how things are done.

What do you enjoy about working at Safearth?

The people I work with are great fun, I like getting to go outdoors with the field work, the variety, and getting to work on electronics and some of the test gear when it’s broken – it’s pretty fun when you’re mainly focused on power systems.

What do you do outside of working hours?

I play a bit of sport, and am engaged in a few social activities, and do a lot of stuff with my church.
