Hunter Manufacturing Awards HMA 2020 Winner Collaboration Partnership

Winner of the Collaboration Partnership Award – Hunter Manufacturing Awards 2020

Safearth’s hard work and dedication in collaboration with Ampcontrol and NewieVentures was recognised with us winning the Collaboration Partnership Award at the prestigious Hunter Manufacturing Awards 2020.

As world-class leaders in electrical engineering Safearth was hand-picked for our expertise in R&D and product development (including our in-house manufacturing) and insights on developing products for safety-critical systems, despite our lack of medical industry experience.

An extraordinary result in the global pandemic

In the rapidly implemented response to the COVID-19 pandemic, this landmark project led by NSW Government Health Infrastructure saw Safearth’s engineers dig deep to develop contingency ventilator solutions. We went from the drawing board, to prototype, to a fully functioning Intensive Care Unit product within three weeks. Clinicians in the State Government Advisory Board and the NSW Premier are now seeking to have our invention developed into a fully-fledged commercial product, with the possibility of export.

The pace of this ventilator project is rare in the medical product engineering space, with projects usually being measured in years, not days. To have a functioning ventilator designed, developed and manufactured within 18 days, and clinical trials beginning just one week later is testament to the expertise and hard work of everybody involved.

“[This project is] a tremendous example of collaboration to develop such a critical life-saving device. A wonderful project that has been well managed involving multiple partnerships and key contributors from medical professionals, skilled technicians right through to manufacturing apprentices. To rapidly produce several prototypes and then collaboratively evaluate them to settle on a final product is collaboration at its best.”

Evolving far beyond earthing specialists, Safearth continues to pioneer and diversify, led by our unwavering commitment to solving meaningful problems in a valuable way.

Stephen Palmer, Managing Director of Safearth, looks forward to future collaboration opportunities:

“The Hunter has extraordinary engineers, and if we can form the right partnerships and create the right environment for them to work together, then the prospects for the future are immense”.
